Fyrish Substation

Today we were delighted to be invited along to the Fyrish Substation site to see for ourselves the work that is going on there.  Our first stop was at the site offices to be given very important safety instructions.

We were also told about  PPE.  After a bit of head scratching, we realised it meant personal protective equipment!  We were all given hard hats and high visibility vests to wear while on the site.

Then we were split into two groups for a walk around the site.

Heather showed us how she takes water readings around the site to check that the water is clean. We were able to give her a hand.  The meter said the water was almost clean enough to drink!

Heather also gave us a nature hunt activity where we were given cards with different colours on it.  The challenge was to find things in the environment that matched up with the colour chart.

Next, Darren took us to look at the construction site.  It was pretty big and we could see a lot of work going on in the distance.

We each also got to have a sit in a big digger and see what it was like inside it.

We had a great time and thank you to all at SSE and Bam Nuttall who made the trip so enjoyable for us.
